In Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past for the Nintendo 3DS, you begin as a young boy living peacefully on the isolated island of Estard. The world appears to consist of nothing more than your small homeland, but a mysterious discovery in ancient ruins reveals that many lands once existed beyond the sea. When you and your friends uncover magical stone fragments, you unlock portals that transport you to forgotten islands trapped in the past.
Each island you visit is suffering from its own curse or tragedy, often caused by dark forces working behind the scenes. By solving the problems of these lands in the past, you restore them in the present, gradually rebuilding the world piece by piece. As more islands reappear on the world map, a greater evil begins to reveal itself.
Your journey becomes a quest to confront the Demon Lord Orgodemir, whose power shattered the world long ago. Along the way, you recruit allies, master a wide range of vocations, and grow from an ordinary youth into a true hero. Through courage and perseverance, you work to free the world from its ancient curse and restore hope to every land you save.
